Facebook is looking out to use profile pictures to identify its members by using contraversial facial recognition technology.Facebook's tag suggest feature currently identifies faces in newly  uploaded photos by comparing them with the pictures in which the users have previously tagged with. Facial recognition software is used to calculate a unique “template” based on someone’s facial features, like the distance between the eyes, nose and ears.Templates are only created for people on Facebook who have been tagged in a photo. Facebook users can choose to de-tag themselves from photos posted by other users on the site, and these photos will not be used to create the template.Facebook facial recognition software has long been controversial. It was turned on by default in 2011, meaning members had to opt out if they did not want to be part of the system, resulting in an outcry from privacy campaigners, who claimed that data had been collected and processed without consent. The social network was then forced to switch off its facial recognition tool and delete data collected from European users in October 2012, following an investigation by privacy authorities in Ireland and Germany. However, the software is still gaining traction in the US.Google's social network, Google+, uses similar facial recognition technology, but requires user consent. Google has also said that its wearable computer, Google Glass, will not automatically use users' faces until privacy concerns are allayed.

Samsung Galaxy smartwatch will be released in the next week.Besides this reports have revealed that the battery life of this Samsung galaxy is 10 hours only.

The hotly-anticipated device will come with 10 hours of battery life, according to reports, meaning it would have to be charged every day.And the smartwatch will come with speakers integrated into the clasp, built in NFC and a Bluetooth connection.
Meanwhile, a source familiar with the product told The Telegraph that the smartwatch would be pushed as a companion to the Galaxy Note III, which will also be launched on 4 September.
The smartwatch will allow users to begin reading emails on their wrist and then continue at the point they stopped on their Samsung device, they said. The smartwatch is expected to come with a 2.5-inch, 320 x 320 OLED display, which Lee Young Hee - the company's executive vice president -confirmed earlier this week would not be flexible, contrary to earlier speculation.
Specifications:Specs for the Galaxy Note III have also been leaked online, suggesting the device will have a 5.68-inch 1080p display, 3 GB of RAM, a 13 megapixel camera and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor.
With the Galaxy gear, Samsung is making the first major launch in what may soon become a crowded market. Google and Apple have filed patent documents suggesting they plan to develop watches, while Microsoft has confirmed it is working on a version of its own.
Twitter is one of the sophisticated social networking sites.Twitter has introduced a 'report abuse' option for users who are targeted with threatening and abusive messages on the popular social networking site. The report button had already been introduced for mobile phone users, but is now available across all platforms, including desktop websites,in Twitter The Independent reported. The move has been hailed by the hundreds of thousands of campaigners who had called for the social network sites to take action against threatening and abusive users of Twitter .Many received bomb threats, while two of them were warned they would be raped by users of the site.
The threats led to a public outcry for action from the microblogging site to introduce measures that would protect users.
There are still issues: users have to agree for the report to be potentially shared with the harasser, and there are some boxes that could be auto-populated that aren't. But overall, this is a fantastic first step made by Twitter-one of the leading social networking site.

Samsung’s perennial tagline, ‘The Next Big Thing Is Here’, has been attached to a number of their smartphones, including the Galaxy S4 and the Note II. And given their sales records, it’s not a farfetched claim. But it looks like their real next big thing might be neither smartphone nor phablet.

The Galaxy Gear name is being tossed around, with many claiming it’s a watch that will be capable of making phone calls. But that’s hardly new. Samsung released the S9110 in 2009, their slimmest Watchphone, to a lukewarm response. Accompanied by a Bluetooth headset, the S9110 was a capable phone by itself—if you discount the headset. But the rumoured Galaxy Gear smartwatch will reportedly have to pair with a phone to work, a lot like Sony’s smartwatches or the Pebble smartwatch.

What we don’t yet know is what the device will do. On the list of rumoured capabilities is answering calls (via a Bluetooth headset, we’d guess), replying to texts, IMs and emails, and surfing the web. We’d also guess there will be the standard music functions, either as a standalone player or allowing users to control music playback. We’re interested in what else Samsung has in store for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, given that they’re rumoured to be throwing in a dual-core processor and 1GB RAM. With IFA approaching, it’s one of the possible dates for the announcement of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch.

There are equally strong rumours that Apple, Google and Microsoft are each planning smartwatches of their own. Will we finally see the major OEMs enter a smartwatch war? Will it revolve around hardware or software? We can’t wait to find out.

Meanwhile, there’s another rumoured entrant into the tablet market. Ever since Nokia shacked up with Microsoft to make Windows Phone-powered devices, it’s been rumoured that they will be making a Windows-based tablet. Given that their Lumia line is responsible for some of the most well-received smartphone hardware, it’s not a surprise that people will want to see what a Nokia Windows tablet would look like.

Recent rumours have renewed interest in a Nokia-Microsoft tablet that was supposedly cancelled after Nokia decided to scrap its model of a Windows RT tablet in lieu of a Windows 8 one. The fresh rumour states the device will have a 10.1-inch screen, will be powered by a quad-core processor, and run Windows RT.

China has been hit by the "largest ever" attack on its Internet structure, crashing the country's .cn servers, according to a government-linked agency.
The national domain name resolution service came under a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack for around two hours early on Sunday, the China Internet Network Information Centre (CNNIC) said in a statement.
Domain name resolution is a key part of how the Internet works, converting a website name into a set of digits the IP address that computers can recognise. The service in China focuses on websites with the .cn extension.
DDoS attacks are attempts to overload a server with a huge number of requests, so that it interrupts or suspends its functions.
A second wave of the assault in China two hours later grew into "the biggest of its kind ever", CNNIC said, without giving any indication of who might have been responsible.
"The resolution of some websites was affected, leading visits to become slow or interrupted."
Washington has repeatedly accused China of waging hacking attacks on the websites of US government agencies and businesses.
But Beijing has denied the accusations, saying China itself is a victim of Internet attacks.

BlackBerry has been lagging behind in the smartphone market with Samsung Galaxy, iPhone, HTC and even Micromax with their Canvas version leading the market. In order to provide a strong competition to these smartphones, BlackBerry launched BlackBerry Q5 in India at Rs 24,990, which looks a good deal for the mentioned price.
The BlackBerry was criticized earlier for its overpriced phones which many believe led to its downfall. Hence, there was a serious need for BlackBerry to make an immediate comeback. BlackBerry Q5 is their reply. The pricing of Q5 is most eye-catching, especially when compared with their previous phones in the market such as Z10 and Q10, which cost above 40,000.The Q5 touch screen is 3.1" square size with 720x720 pixel resolution. The screen is bright giving a contrast and vivid look. The smartphone uses a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processors and 2 GB of memory, running at 1.2 GHz. It is light as well at 120 gms, 4.72-inches tall, 2.59-inches wide and 0.42-inches deep, reported Firstpost. The phone is available in three colours - black, red and white.
In spite of all the good features, there are some, which still could have been dealt better, especially the Qwerty keyboard, resembling the same as that of the old BB OS7 devices. The sensor that has been used in the Q5 is also said to be of a cheaper quality as compared to Q10. It may be for the same reason that the images formed by Q5 with 5 megapixels are not best suited to indoor or low-light, as it can gives a grainy picture.
In the next month or so, we could come to know about the success of the new BlackBerry model, which has been introduced to get back their consumers. Q5 could put BlackBerry well on track.

Facebook has made an important change to its algorithm for News Feed to ensure more prominence to “high quality content”. According to the social networking gaint the latest update to the News Feed ranking system ensures the organic content that people see from Pages they are connected to is the most interesting to them.
The new algorithm is based on a range of factors including timeliness, relevancy, trustable source, sharing with friends and interest. The update, however, goes harsh on low quality posts or memes, which have flooded the social networking website. Facebook says the update is based on feedback of thousand users.
“We used the results of this survey to build a new machine learning system to detect content defined as high quality. The system uses over a thousand different factors, such as how frequently content from a certain Page is reported as low quality (e.g., hiding a Page post), how complete the Page profile is, and whether the fan base for a particular Page overlaps with the fan base of other known high quality Pages. Coming up with an algorithm to detect this is complex, and we will continue to refine it as we get more feedback,” says Facebook in a post.
Facebook said its trial of new algorithm with select users showed greater engagement with high quality content and interesting stories from the Pages they are connected to. With the latest update, Pages on Facebook that are “seeing good engagement on their posts could see further increases in reach. The bottom line is that your Page strategy should still stay the same: produce high quality content and optimize for engagement and reach,” adds Facebook.

Sony corp.might have taken the lead in the industry's race to build an online version of pay television as the Japanese giant plans to launch an online, paid TV service by the end of the year.

Sony intends to stream cable channels and on-demand programming through the internet. The service will also include a "recommended programming" feature, which will partly be influenced by content providers and party on an algorithm of a user's viewing habits, the report says.
The list of channels in the deal with Viacom include MTV, Comedy Central, BET, Logo, VH1 and Spike.Sony also renewed a trademark for Playstation TV
covering hardware and steaming services.

The iOS app Pounce allows shoppers to scan images they spot in print media with their device's camera, then purchase the item online directly from the retailer running the advertisement.
"We are able to match an image with an actual product available online," said Avital Yachin, chief executive of BuyCode, Inc, the Tel Aviv, Israel-based company that developed the app, one of a growing number of apps using image recognition to bridge the physical and online worlds of e-commerce.
"Our vision is to allow purchasing of any product in any print ad," he said, adding that the company plans to expand to catalogs, magazines and billboards.
The Pounce app recognizes products that its retailing partners, which include Staples Inc, Target Corp, Toys "R" Us Inc and Ace Hardware Corp, sell online.
After scanning an image, the app displays the item's price and shipping cost, then allows shoppers to make the purchase directly from the retailer.
Other companies such as eBay and Amazon have apps that use image recognition to identify objects such as books, cars and even clothing to help shoppers find similar items in their online marketplaces.
"The potential of image recognition lies in its ability to determine the make and model of any item in the world, especially those that consumers are otherwise unable to identify," said Steve Yankovich, the VP of Innovation and New Ventures at eBay Inc.
EBay has experimented with adding image recognition to their eBay Fashion and eBay Motors iPhone apps. With eBay Fashion, for example, users can upload an image and the app will suggest items that have similar colors, styles, and fabric.
Its RedLaser app for iPhone and Android allows users to take photos of items and shows similar items available for sale at retailers online and locally, which eBay says fosters its main mission of partnering with retailers, not competing with them.
Yankovich predicts that image recognition technology will help make shopping more seamless as it evolves over the next 10 years.
Amazon's app Flow, for iPhone and Android, allows users to use the camera to identify a product sold on Amazon and get such details as its description, reviews and video or audio clips.
The company says the app can recognize packaged goods with distinguishable features such as books, DVDs or even items such as candy bars or a box of cereal. Users can then read reviews and purchase them from the online retailer.
But Yachin said it will be some time yet before consumers can identify everyday items such as clothing on another person.
"The broader vision of recognizing real-world objects will take a little longer," he said, adding that the technology relies on a large database of product images.
Pounce is free and available in the United States, with plans to expand to Canada and Europe. Amazon Flow is only available in the United States and is free and EBay Fashion is also free and available worldwide.
